L.A.M.B. Hawke Ceylon Satchel, Handbag of the Day

L.A.M.B. Hawke Ceylon SatchelNew from the impossibly versatile Gwen Stefani, the L.A.M.B. Hawke Ceylon Satchel is bright and bold with an unusual color pairing: beigey-gold and fire engine red.

L.A.M.B. is actually becoming known for odd-and-off-color choices, as well as expertly made, sturdy bags with great lines. We love the sporty double stripe down the middle, and the way the piping on the sides curves like the heel of a tennis shoe. It's rare to see a bag this bold that would dress down so perfectly.

To dress this bag up, we recommend removing the shoulder strap (it looks better without it anyway) and pairing this with an outfit that incorporates neither color -- preferably white or a neutral shade (it would look a little Hot Topic with black). Got patent red shoes? This is the bag with which to wear them, and don't skimp on the red lipstick, either.

The L.A.M.B. Hawke Ceylon Satchel is available from Neiman Marcus for $495.00.

Carlos Falchi Oversized Python Clutch, Handbag of the Day

Here's a clutch that's a little different than what I normally pick out -- it's luxe and glamorous but in an edgier, more organic way. It's the Oversized Python Clutch by Carlos Falchi and it has a very tribal vibe with the multi-colored hands showing off their large rings of brightly colored jewel appliques. Thanks to its neutral color palette this bag will go with quite a few outfits, although it's a bold piece that probably shouldn't be paired with too many other patterns or you could end up looking way too 'busy.' $1,510

Medium Y-Bow Bowler from YSL, Handbag of the Day

bowler handbag
When summer arrives who doesn't want a light neutral bag with a hint of golden coloring? Yves Saint Laurent pairs classic design, including a signature 'Y' inset, with this airy beige hue creating a truly sunny handbag. The large double-bow ruffle detail adds femininity without employing overstated glitz or glam. The Y-Bow Bowler is subtley sophisticated which could accompany any ensemble from dark jeans and a great top to a simple summer dress. The amande (gold) calf leather is luxurious and the two top handles make it easy to carry along throughout the day or night. Available for $1,795 at Bergdorf Goodman.

Michael Kors Runway Clutch, Handbag of the Day

Woo! I love this pink. How can you not? Hot pink has been popular for ages and here it is done up nice and classy by Michael Kors in sleek patent leather and contemporary silver hardware. The top is framed and opens on a hinge, with nothing more than a tiny logo embossed on the top closure. And if neon isn't your thing (although you might want to take a look at the "Day Glo Orange" and "Acid Yellow" options before you decide) there's also more subdued "Espresso" and even a python skin option. Runway Clutch: $595.

Elsie Lamé Shoulder Bag, Handbag of the Day

Here's a pretty dose of neutral glam in the form of the Lamé Shoulder Bag by Chloé. Golden hues and opulence in every inch is the name of game here, with a simple fold-over design enhanced by subtle details like a delicate gold-tone double chain shoulder strap, logo-embossed (and uniquely designed) turnlock front closure, and shaped with just a couple of decorative seams to break the pattern of the fabric and add some interest. Lined in nude leather with a single interior pocket also featuring the Chloé logo. $1,250

McQueen Knuckle Duster Patent Leather Clutch, Handbag of the Day

clutch
I've never considered a handbag could double as a self-defense mechanism, unless it had a brick inside or something equally heavy, but Alexander McQueen's Knuckle Duster Patent Leather Clutch would certainly bring more than a slap to an unwelcome visitor's body. Accenting the top ridge of this richly covered bag are skull and crystal rings in dark colors adding a subtle bit of glamour. The bag does feature more than protective embellishments such as a clasp closure, metal frame and leather lining.

Have you ever put your thumb through a ring connecting your handbag's handle to the body of the bag for protection from muggers along a busy street? Well just slip your fingers through these rings atop your clutch and I'd bet you'd deter any interested parties from attempting to swipe your clutch now. Enough violent fun for one day...

Designer Baby Satchels at Saks

diaper bagEven mothers want to make a stylish statement when pushing their prams and if they're going to be lugging around all of that baby gear it might as well be in a designer bag. I knew that more affordable designers like JP Lizzy and Vera Bradley made diaper bags but honestly until today I didn't realize such iconic names like Prada, Juicy Couture and Burberry were brandished on baby totes.

Saks Fifth Avenue has a large collection of designer baby satchels for the fashion forward mama ranging from $158 to $1,100. These bags don't look like any ordinary diaper bag and they definitely don't portray any pastel colored or yellow ducky themes. They are sophisticated yet functional and will blend into everyday life without shouting 'Baby on Board'! Peruse the gallery to select a fantastic baby bag for some lucky mom you know.

Jimmy Choo Martha Pony Skin Clutch, Handbag of the Day

clutch
Who doesn't like a clutch for its undeniable portability? Better yet, who doesn't like a expandable handbag of any size? For these two reasons I am cheering for Jimmy Choo's new Martha Pony Skin Clutch which couples portability with versatility in volume. Constructed of multi-colored pony skin and suede marked in the middle by an asymmetric gold-tone zipper, which reveals a little extra space, this clutch is smartly sassy easily converting from day to night. It also features a hidden magnetic closure on the flap, an internal pocket with zipper and a tan suede lining with lilac trim. It's functional expandability reminds me of Jimmy Choo's Middle Zip Hobo I covered earlier this year. (11" x 7" x 2") for $1,595

Miniature Magnolia Box by Judith Leiber, Handbag of the Day

clutch
Judith Leiber's tiny clutches are not new to Luxist but I couldn't resist her Miniature Magnolia Box. Maybe it's my family's southern heritage or the giant magnolia blooms that used to amaze me with their fragrant scent and larger-than-life size (at least for a girl from the arid west). The entire little evening bag is smothered in rhinestone crystals like a perfectly iced cake and features a push-top closure and hinged bottom. Each side of the box shines with a different take on the iconic blossom like having a split personality with an angelic, lightly-hued flower on one side and it's darker, more mischievous cousin on the other. Although palm-sized (2" by 2") this little bag will illuminate your ensemble with the right touch of pizazz. ($535)

Kim White Automotive Special Edition, Handbag of the Day

Kim White Special Edition Handbag - Click above for high-res image gallery

The annals of automotive history are full of great interior fabrics, especially from American automakers during the 1970s and early '80s. While our tastes in seating surfaces may have changed over the years, those colorful prints and durable fabrics still have lots of life left in them – at least according to Kim White, who offers a full line of handbags sewn up from vintage automotive fabrics starting from $95.

According to White, these handbags "have a widespread appeal, from trendy teens to stylish grandmothers and every woman in between," and they certainly good to our eyes, especially the killer Camaro Special Edition ($225 incl. tax and shipping to Continental U.S.). Concerned that a slew of bums have quite literally ridden around on your brand new handbag for the last few decades? Fret not. Says the company's website:
Kim White uses dead stock never-used textiles intended for use in American automobiles: cars, trucks and vans. She fortuitously unearthed an entire warehouse of automotive fabric, which may be the last existing stock anywhere in the US, and she is the sole owner of these amazing textiles.
There you have it. Not only are these handbags assembled right here in the United States using all-new textiles, Kim White Handbags is apparently the only place in the world where you'll find them. Check out our gallery below for samples.

Porsche Design Commemorates Launch of new Panamera with Special Collection

Porsche Design has long since evolved from an automotive design studio into a company offering a wide range of highly desirable products, sold worldwide through their own dedicated stores, along with special design work for other companies as well. But all the while they haven't forgotten their roots. As if to demonstrate just that, the studio has launched a new collection to compliment the new Panamera four-door grand touring car from their automotive sister-company. The collection includes all manner of clothing and accessories for men, women and children, as well as a line of Swiss-made timepieces and a set of fitted luggage. The latter is made of lightweight aluminum and polycarbonate, designed to fit in the trunk space of the new Panamera and available in the same exterior colors to provide a fresh take on the traditional soft-sided fitted luggage offered by other luxury automakers.

Felix Rey Antigua Small Clutch, Handbag of the Day

felix rey antigua clutchThis beachy little clutch from Felix Rey seems perfect for hot summer evenings. The brightly colored straw bag is adorned with natural shells. It has a magnetic closure and an inside patch pocket and is lined in a matching cotton. It's large enough for an evening's essentials and makes a perfect companion with a breezy sundress and a pair of strappy sandals for day or night. It sells for $90.

Valentino Primevere Tote, Handbag of the Day

valentino primevere toteWe've covered Valentino's flower purses before but this latest patent leather tote trades pretty for a bit of an edgier look. The black tote is covered with flowers for a look that is striking from a distance and fascinating once you get a closer view. The design peps up the basic tote style which is a 14" by 14" square that is 4" deep. The tote has goldtone hardware and there is also a detachable shoulder strap. It's on pre-order at Neiman Marcus for $2,495.

Tory Burch Reagan Satchel, Handbag of the Day

Tory Burch Reagan SatchelI enjoy reading my colleagues' Handbag of the Day posts as much as our readers. I often wonder if I'd ever be dressed up enough, or have such a special occasion, to use any of them, though. I'm more of a basic handbag gal, but finding a black bag that's attractive enough for work or for going out, but not too dressy or too casual, and not gigantic or 10 lbs. before I even put anything in it, with straps I can get over my shoulder, has proven elusive.

Until now, maybe: Tory Burch's Reagan Satchel may be just what I've been looking for. (Scroll to the second bag.) Pebbled metallic leather satchel with silver logo and hardware; interior zip, cell and PDA pockets; and signature logo lining. Measurements: 14" L x 7 1/2"H x 5" D. $525

I also like the site where I found this bag. Material Girl has a good selection of designer bags. The site itself could use a little work, but I enjoyed poking around and discovering new brands (or new to me).
